Fans of Heroes 3 of course know about the project
Wake of Gods . Someone liked it, some did not, and someone just uses his chips to simplify management in the game, well, or even uses a modification of this modification -
Heroes 3.5 Tournament Edition , which tries to make the game interface even more “usable”.
Enthusiasts developing WoG begin to face the limitations of the Heroes engine, for example, the number of different types of units, which in heroes is limited to 1 byte (256 types of units). Yes, and those who play this "addon" could notice that sometimes he is very unstable behaves and crashes, and when playing under Linux through wine, the chances of departure increase many times over.
Therefore, a new project appeared -
VCMI , which has been developed for several months already and its goal is to write the game engine absolutely from scratch, which would fully support the data files of third characters and WoG in particular.
The developers promise that:
There will be no limit on the number of unit types.
A fully playable native version for * nix systems will be available.
Will support ERM scripts.
They think about the support of lua scripts, because they are “more readable” than ERM.
Whether they open the project code is just a reflection. But hope for open source is possible.
')
The project is still very, very raw and naked. Able to read heroic cards, you can run over them and gather resources, gape at the monsters, the insides of the city, the window of the hero
In the next couple of months, they promise to release a version in which it will already be possible to defend and build something in the city.
