The creators of the free laptop Novena raise funds for the project

The funds are going to start mass production of a laptop with open hardware and software, which was called Novena. This project has repeatedly appeared on the pages of Habr, and last year it was described in some detail .

For a long time, the fate of the project was unclear, but now there is a fundraising for the launch of Novena production , and only need 250 thousand dollars. By the way, already collected 235 thousand dollars, and until the end of the fundraising another 13 days. In general, the likelihood that funds will be collected - almost 100%.

It is worth recalling that the idea of ​​this device is that the platform itself, the documentation and software development guide for Novena (including the software already created) will be open. So from the components it will be possible to assemble not only a laptop (with any size of the display, housing and a set of components), but also the router, and everything else that you want.

Novena is based on the 1.2 gigahertz quad-core ARM processor and Xilinx FPGA . But a special Linux distribution for this laptop.

Any “contributor” can donate funds to the project. For $ 25 you can get a t-shirt with the project logo.



For $ 500 - motherboard, with 4 GB of RAM, 4 GB microSD card, WiFi module based on Ath9k, HDMI and other connectors. Wait 6 months after the campaign ends.



For $ 1,195, we get an all-in-one laptop, with Full HD (1920x1080) IPS matrix + a couple of buns. Wait 7 months after the end of the campaign.
