On Habré, several articles have already been published on the possibility of controlling a quadcopter using Oculus Rift. Well, how do you like the idea of controlling an armored personnel carrier / tank with an Oculus Rift as the main control / surveillance device? This is exactly the idea that the military specialists of the Norwegian army are currently implementing. ')
According to eyewitnesses, the use of this gadget allows you to feel like sitting in a “transparent tank”.
All this is provided by several cameras installed on several sides of the vehicle. The image from the cameras is reduced to a single “screen” that allows the person controlling the movement to see everything that is happening around.
Of course, the project is still in the early development stage, and will be further developed. After all, it has several drawbacks, including the possibility of damage / contamination of the camera, when monitoring with the help of video glasses will become impossible.
However, this project is impressive. Among other things, the price of a set of cameras - only 2 thousand US dollars, which for the military (especially Norway) - just a trifle. At the same time, a set of specialized military-style video cameras can cost 100 thousand dollars. And it is already sensitive for any army in the world.
