Experimental interface using skeorphs

For a long time, iOS has been criticized for using skymarps : green backgrounds à la poker cloth, “wooden” bookshelves, and “leather” firmware. However, the new experimental interface relies on skomorphs not in the design, but in the toolkit.

The idea itself is taken from a concept developed by a specialist from Carnegie Mellon University in conjunction with the Future Interfaces Group . The essence of the idea: people use tools to manipulate the outside world, so why not use them to work with touchscreen?

TouchTools interface involves the use of virtual tools that copy the principle of operation and appearance of these prototypes. For example, to take a screenshot, you need to fold your fingers as if you are holding a camera in your hands, and it will immediately appear on the screen. Want to erase information? Fold your fingers as if holding an eraser. And so on.

Looks impressive. But is it convenient? Yes, there are people who are much more convenient to use some kind of "offline" tools, and not to drive fingers on the touchscreen. But the experience of millions of people, including children from infancy, suggests that modern “manual” interfaces are very convenient and do not cause any special problems in learning to use.

In addition, many have already forgotten what it is - to hold a magnifying glass or eraser. When cutting and pasting text, which of you represents what does it do with scissors? Probably, we have already come to the level of introduction of electronics, when the skills of working with it displace the "natural" skills of working with real, physical tools. And despite the unusual and nostalgic look of this experimental tool, it is unlikely to be massively used.
