Microsoft, Oracle and a number of other companies join anti-Russian sanctions.

Microsoft, Oracle, Symantec, Hewlett-Packard, and several other US companies are joining the sanctions against Russia. On the intention of the IT giants to join the anti-Russian sanctions reports "Gazeta.Ru" with reference to sources in the technology departments of two banks that fall into the American "black list".
As a result of these sanctions, banks may be left without critical support for software and hardware. According to Andrey Chernogorov, executive secretary of the commission of the State Duma of Russia on strategic information systems, a number of foreign IT companies have indeed joined the sanctions against certain domestic banks or their structures. Representatives of Microsoft and Oracle are now negotiating with the "affected" banks for further development of relations. A source close to the bank “Russia” informed the publication that the bank was waiting for the disconnection of a part of foreign software “from day to day”.

What to do next?

In connection with all that is happening, the question of dependence on proprietary solutions, which become a critically vulnerable link in a situation of political instability, re-emerges. The transition of vital structures to open OS and software in such a situation could give impetus to the development of independent solutions. However, what ended the introduction of Linux and the development of the national OS, we all remember. More painful are the sanctions in the field of supplying equipment and servers for large Russian companies. The question of the financial responsibility of contract partners to Russian partners remains open. Will this early termination be compensated?

Unfortunately, there are considerable doubts that this situation will lead to real efforts to create independent open systems. Most likely this will be the reason for the next round of renaming Ubuntu into RosGosBuntu of finalizing the “national operating system”.
