Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1: tested in humans

Every six months, another iPad killer appears - a device that, according to its creators, should finally deal with the hated Apple tablet. And time after time, the formidable rivals of the iPad, thanks to this - deadly - comparison, are in the spotlight for several weeks, but then quietly and imperceptibly go into the shadows. Freeing up space for new killers.

Promoting, presented at CES 2014, the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 tablet, Samsung has abandoned loud adjectives - with the exception of “Pro” in the title - but, in fact, this model is quite suitable for the role of “ipad shredder”. And all thanks to a set of options and features, some of which even the enveloped iPad Air can envy.

Yes, in order to avoid misunderstandings: we have on the test (thanks to the company “Yulmart” ), there was a model with an LTE-module, in which they install a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, the Wi-Fi version is equipped with a native Samsung Exynos Octa 5420 chip, which is more economical, but slightly less powerful. We also add that in the Tab Pro lineup there are two more new items - 8.4 and 12.1 inches diagonal.

If you compare the "appearance" of iPad Air and Tab Pro 10.1 - their dimensions and weight differ by a few millimeters and grams. However, the sensations when you hold both tablets in your hands are different - the “ipad” pleasantly cools the metal of the back panel, and the Tab Pro is no less pleasant due to the “type of leather” coating, which in reality is a regular, orthodox polycarbonate.

The assembly is excellent, although if you make an effort, the tablet bends slightly, but this is already nagging. The complaints, rather, are caused by the placement of the control keys - they kind of hint to you: you need to hold our tablet horizontally. Try to take the device vertically - and you will surely touch one of the touch buttons.

Matrix Tab Pro 10.1 is so well assembled that at times it seems that a bright, juicy, clear picture is glued on top of the display. The viewing angles are excellent, though our subjective view from the iPad with this indicator is still a bit, but better.

The screen resolution is 2560x1600 pixels - by and large there is nothing to add. Although - oh, horror! - this screen is made using PenTile technology. Yes, this pixel placement scheme has its pros and cons, but in the case of the Tab Pro, the feeling that you are being deceived is not - yet the density of dots per inch is quite high (299 dpi).

By the way, the S-Pen stylus tablet is not supported. There is a desire to record something on the go or make sketches during a boring plan gauge - choose tablets from the Note line.

Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 uses the Android 4.4.2 operating system - the latest version of Google’s mobile axis today. What we liked about the shell: it uses a full screen keyboard - here, for example, there are a number of numeric keys, cursor buttons, and even the Ctrl key.

The tablet is preinstalled with a convenient news reader - a special Flipboard version for Samsung. A small minus is impossible to remove.

A good gift for a novice user is the Hancom office suite. Perhaps not the most functional application, but to start using it you just need to create a Samsung account.

In general, the developer does not leave novices to the mercy of fate and a brand-new tablet meets you with everything you need for the first time.

Next - multitasking. Here it is implemented in two ways: first, you can bring up to three separate windows with applications on the desktop, and second, in split mode, split the screen into two work areas, the size of which can be adjusted. All these manipulations are performed using the side menu, which contains applications that support multi-tasking.

Naturally, all these wonders of usability would be impossible without a powerful productive filling. Benchmarks, 4K video playback, the most modern simulators - they all say that before us is one of the most pumped systems to date.

What do we have left? Sound and photo module. Stereo speakers do their job well, but listening to music is still more comfortable with headphones. 8-megapixel main camera is equipped with autofocus and flash, can shoot HD-video and supports a dozen different modes of photography - if you suddenly want to make a photo of your favorite cat, the result will suit the cat one hundred percent.

Finally, the battery. For battery life, the Tab Pro can easily compete with iPad Air - from 10 to 13 hours when working on the Internet via Wi-Fi, from 3 to 5 hours - in maximum load mode. If desired, the time of watching a video can be reached up to 9-10 hours, and without any special tricks.

In total
The average price of a Tab Pro 10.1 today is comparable to a 16-gigabyte iPad Air equipped with a 4G module — and for someone it can be a daunting task. The solution is simplified if you are only interested in Android devices - today it is one of the most powerful and fast tablets.
