French telecommunications equipment manufacturer
Alcatel has filed a lawsuit against
Microsoft . She accuses the latter of illegally using her patents,
CNews reports.
Alcatel believes that seven patent infringements were deliberate. They all relate to intellectual property rights in the field of digital video technology and network communications.
Claims are filed with East Texas District Court. Alcatel representatives demand damages, a ban on the use of patents and compensation for legal fees. However, according to the
BBC , Alcatel has the hope that “this dispute can be resolved through discussion, not trial.” Microsoft spokesman Lou Gelos did not comment on the details of this case. He said only that Alcatel’s claims are most likely related to the litigation that has been going on for quite a while between Microsoft and the American company
Lucent Technologies . Claims were filed last Friday, after US President Bush approved plans to merge Alcatel and Lucent Technologies.
