A new SoftKinetic startup is about to change the gaming industry.

softkinetic logotype
Softkinetic is a leading company in the creation of so-called “natural interfaces” that transform human movements into game actions.

Although large game makers (such as Nintendo) are already developing 3D technologies (Wii remote control), SoftKinetic experts claim that their brainchild is better and more technological: if you have a remote control when playing the Wii, SoftKinetic works without any pointers. Moreover, the SoftKinetic technology can recognize not only simple movements, but also such complex ones as dance, flight, throwing and waving, strikes.

The technology itself is called Softkinetic's iisu ™ and recognizes movement with a camera that “sees” everything under any conditions. This is an infrared camera of mass production, it costs about $ 15 and makes 60 frames per second. But SoftKinetic integrates it with sophisticated software that contains information about all types of axial movements that the human body is capable of. It turns out that the movements of the human body can consist only of segments of axial movements. Plus, there are turns that, besides the body, the head and shoulders are capable of. All this is interpreted (with high accuracy) by SoftKinetic software using 65 video sensors. Both of these technologies - infrared (for accurate recognition) and software (to simulate body movements) - are well known, so the only question is whether the SoftKinetic startup managed to combine them better than the giants of this market.

The company has already introduced a version of the free Quake game, which uses SoftKinetic technology. Now the creators want to license this software for game studios. As George van Hegarden (executive director) said, negotiations are planned with Microsoft (which can use this technology to develop games on the Xbox) and Apple (which remains about a month before supplying its iTV platform to the market). In addition, negotiations are ongoing with Sony.
