Style and new technologies in medicine: 3D printed tire

Traditional plaster dressings are terrible in appearance, bulky and uncomfortable, irritate the skin and eventually begin to smell bad. It's like a medieval torture tool. 3D printed nylon tires for fixing completely solve all problems with discomfort, unpleasant smell and itchy skin. The design concept of a cast exoskeleton provides a secure fit, looks elegant, is ventilated, is very convenient due to its extremely light weight, as well as waterproof, hygienic and recyclable.

And now the developer Deniz Karasakhin went ahead and took the next step: he developed a three-dimensional printing tire called Osteoid Medical with the ability to connect to a low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) to accelerate the healing of bone tissue.

The concept of Osteoid Medical's 3D-printed tire won the 2014 Golden A'Design Award in the Design of 3D-Printed Products. But the development is based on scientific data: the low-intensity pulsed ultrasound system (LIPUS) allows reducing the duration of the bone healing process by almost 40% - with just one 20-minute procedure per day. Such a therapy with a traditional plaster cast is almost impossible, because it requires the placement of ultrasound electrodes on the skin directly above the injury. And with a three-dimensional tire, this is easily accomplished thanks to the vents. LIPUS probes are attached to the tire, and a layer of rubber at the edges of the adapters for the LIPUS probes allows you to securely install the probes into the air vents of the bus Osteoid medical.

Since this is a design concept, you probably won't find it in the emergency room anytime soon. So, do not rush to break your hand simply because of the opportunity to get a sci-fi 3D printing tire. Such projects develop quickly when great ideas in science and design are combined.

Someday, people with broken hands will look like cyborgs, thanks to the futuristic design of all kinds of artificial limbs and bandages.
