In the winter, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation
voiced its opinion about Bitcoin, calling the cryptocurrency “monetary surrogate.” Following him, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation
arranged a meeting and decided to "hold a series of events." On this wave, some services closed, some stopped accepting Bitcoin for payment, and some Bitcoin exchanges stopped accepting deposits in rubles.
The time has passed, someone has already managed to relax. In the meantime, the prosecutor’s office really started holding “events”. Here is a message from the prosecutor's office yesterday received by my friend, the owner of an online store.

The prosecutor's office demands “to give explanations”, and also warns, “having information about possible violations of the requirements of the law”. At the same time, on the basis of Article 27 of the Federal Law "On the Central Bank of the Russian Federation" and clause 1 of Article 140 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, Bitcoin is called a money surrogate whose release into circulation is prohibited by law. The validity of this conclusion is in itself very controversial.
In the case of my friend, the store only announced its intention to accept Bitcoin, but did not make a single operation with it, so that the real accusation could not be represented. But it is obvious that the authorities have already firmly set about searching for businesses that deal with cryptocurrency.
Note the spelling of the address from "http //:" and the "bag for payment". It seems to be evidence that the prosecutor’s office is well-versed in the area for which it has undertaken.
And even if there are no specific laws that explicitly relate to cryptocurrencies, there is still no Russia. And let the legal status of cryptocurrency in Russia has not yet been determined. And yet, just like that, you can be invited to the prosecutor's office and suspected of money laundering and terrorist financing, since you are dealing with Bitcoin. Their justifications will be shaky, but in court they still need a competent and good lawyer to protect your business.
So it goes. Hello, Russia, cutting edge innovation!
