Will mini drones be recharged from power lines?

One of the key problems of modern electronics is the low battery capacity. This is the main reason for the small radius and time of action of various drones, especially small and miniature ones. Often, the operating time of mini-drones does not exceed 15 minutes. This restriction forces scientists and designers to seek various ways to solve the problem. And in the near future it may happen that walking along the street you will observe a bevy of small drones hanging on electric wires that recharge their batteries.

MIT has developed a prototype of a drone, which, using a magnetometer, finds a power line, clings to it and recharges its battery using an electromagnetic field.

The Air Transport Authority, which is part of the United States Air Force, has also been developing a similar project over the past 5 years.

Given the growing "population" of drones in many armies of the world, their expanding functions and capabilities, ensuring the possibility of recharging mini and microdrones will become of paramount importance. Despite this, the program to develop "self-recharging" drones in the US Air Force may be a victim of cost reduction.
