Happy birthday, Habrahabr!

... a few years ago we bravely began our mission on Habré, like Kuriocity on Mars ...

Today is Habr's official birthday (on April 18, 2006, the domain habrahabr.ru was registered). Happy holiday, dear Habravchane!
')
Let's leave the extra pathos and, let's say briefly, for us (the Mail.ru Group team) Habr is a project that many of our employees visit daily. For us, this is an excellent resource in the literal and figurative sense. We, participating in discussions, publishing our materials and reading the posts of our colleagues (“neighbors on the Internet”), feel alive, involved in an interesting creative process of developing technologies, science, the development of civil society, geek culture and many other things, no less exciting.

And we are pleased that the swarm intelligence (decentralized self-organizing system), which Habrahabr has become in recent years, does not stand still, but is constantly evolving, moving forward, boiling with comments, discussions, karmic wars and the battle for rating. That is how, in our deep conviction, “intellectual evolution” should take place, in which “weak” and “lifeless” publications (and comments) die, and interesting and useful, in the opinion of the majority, posts, on the contrary, rise.

And we are glad that we are part of this interesting phenomenon (and not just outside observers).

What does it mean to be a habraautor?

This question can not be answered unequivocally. More precisely, it is possible, but everyone will give different answers. Our personal opinion - to be a habratist, means to share knowledge. Not to teach and not to mentor, but to talk about your experience and learn from the experience of others. For us, a habraavator is a seeker, thirsty for knowledge and everything new. It is very important for us, habra-authors from Mail.Ru Group, to share thoughts and ideas with like-minded people we find here.

Volodya Rudnykh , author of posts “ Achtung!”, Or Monitoring the status of a project’s build , Romo: pet , Infrastructure and life cycle of a web project , Profiling and debugging Python , Profiling and debugging Python, go to practice "," Python profiling and debugging, tools "," Python profiling and debugging, debugging ":

- For me, Habr is a unique opportunity to rise in front of the industry to its full height and tell you what I do, what I do and how. First, in this way I return my debt to the community, because everything that I can do, I learned not at school or university, but on the Internet: on forums, blogs, conferences, IRC channels and, of course, on Habré, reading interesting and useful articles of my colleagues. Secondly, this way I get a huge amount of feedback, criticism, valuable advice and just comments. This helps me grow professionally and always remain “at the forefront” of technology. The strength of the community is difficult to overestimate and, undoubtedly, the most color of the Russian-speaking IT community today can only be found on Habré.

Konstantin Lebedev , author of the articles “ FileAPI 2.0: Uploading Files to the Server a Year Later ”, “ Sorting with the HTML5 Drag'n'Drop API ”:

- I am writing to show how we work, how to solve ordinary tasks in a large company, to show our kitchen; That is why I do not write translations or about new branches, all my articles are real tasks and their solutions.

Vadim Balashov , author of the articles “ Cross-platform programming for modern mobile Windows platforms ”, “ Adaptation of Windows Phone applications for large screens ”:

- I try to write on Habr every six months. This usually happens in the fall and winter. For six months in my work, I manage to face a certain number of questions, the answers to which are not on the very first page of Google’s issue. To solve such questions one has to search through a lot of information, to solve some issues experimentally. Habr is a good platform to share the acquired knowledge.

Pavel Scherbinin , author of the posts “ Moscow.pm in the Mail.Ru Group office: on Play Perl and the prejudices of Perl programmers ”, “ How to respond to a request, or Databases for non-teapots ”, “ We invite you to Moscow PM 06/02 ” , " Grouping with the condition ":

- This is a unique opportunity to share accumulated experience and knowledge. The opportunity to look at the problem from a different angle, to learn the opinion of many habrazhiteli. Find like-minded people, and just interesting people.

Ahmed Sheriev , the author of the articles “ Integration with the hub“ Photos ”on Windows Phone ”, “ Fast app resume for Windows Phone 8 ”, “ Code sharing between WP7, WP8, Win8 platforms. Basics , Sharing code between WP, Win8. Part 2 :

- Unfortunately or fortunately, Habr is a unique Russian-language IT resource with such a vast audience of developers. When I share my experience and knowledge with colleagues, I myself learn more and grow professionally.

Results of the year 100+

We would like to turn back and see how this year was for our blog. Recall the best posts published since the last anniversary of our favorite resource, and even bring some statistics for fans of numbers.

So, since April 18, 2013, the best, "golden", who gained more than 100 pluses, in our blog are:

Databases in online games. From Allods Online to Skyforge
FileAPI 2.0: Uploading files to the server a year later
Other planets
Arrow functions in ECMAScript 6
How it is done: parsing articles

There were a lot of “silver posts” that gained 50 to 100 pluses , as many as 60 pieces. So we decided not to hang this “sheet” here.

The most discussed (over 100 comments) were the following posts:

New technologies are changing the labor market - 622
Fantastic series - 243
How we localize ArcheAge - 202
Databases in online games. From Allods Online to Skyforge - 169
Interstellar travel: from point A to point B - 147
Black holes: scandals, intrigues, investigations - 118

Over the past year, our readers have left more than 5,900 comments, and the total number of views has reached 3,870,000 times.

The specificity of Mail.Ru Group's interests influenced the general direction of the blog: it was mainly application programming, development and testing of applications and services.

A little bit more into space

However, we are convinced that it is impossible to confine ourselves to purely utilitarian publications. After all, our world is so diverse and multifaceted that it would be a mistake to consciously limit ourselves to a very narrow topic. That is why in our blog there are posts on the topic of space, photography, literature, cinema. Of course, these topics are raised by us with a certain bias, which, in our opinion, may be of interest to readers.

Do you have any suggestions for new posts? Write in the comments, we will not leave any idea without attention!

Respectfully,
Editorial Mail.Ru Group blog
