Women in IT

Not so long ago, at the request of comrades from CRN / RE, I wrote some text on the topic of women in IT. As a result, they got this article . In my interesting. And my creation can be read in my blog or found under the cut.

IT. Information Technology. Native male profession. It does not matter that even the concept itself appeared relatively recently. But it was men who became the trendsetters. Some say that this is due to a predisposition to certain psycho-types. Others believe that the reason is exclusively in prejudice. Both opinions have the right to exist, but nothing prevents to try yourself in this direction.

')

And many try. Someone to prove to themselves that they are not worse than others. Someone in IT feels like a fish in water. Situations are different. Accordingly, the career may be different. The first - do not stay long. Usually they go to those areas to which they have more soul. And often there they can shine with the knowledge gained at work with information technologies. The second remain seriously and for a long time. They are loved and appreciated. As professionals, professionals, and just as women.

Employers now understand that women in the IT field, like men, can be professionals or they can be beginners. It does not depend on the floor. But the atmosphere in the team depends on the floor. Practice shows that in mixed teams of professionals, the indicators are generally higher than in the men's teams. A visionary leader takes this factor into account.

In general, most women, finding a job in an IT-company, get a job in related areas. As a rule, these are customer service managers, call-center operators. If there is a desire to connect a career with information technology - are arranged in technical user support, programmers, network administrators. The only job that women usually bypass is the system administrator. But here it is connected more with the specifics of the profession - not every lady can drag monitors from floor to floor.

Dear Ladies! If you see that this area attracts you - that you want to work and develop as part of the IT community - go ahead. If you succeed, not only you, but also your future colleagues will be glad. It's so nice when having a cup of tea or coffee at lunchtime, you can discuss the problems of updating KDE under FreeBSD not only with a clever person, but also with a beautiful person to talk to.

UPD: Those who believe that I am against the beautiful half of humanity are mistaken. I have two hands for them. I am much nicer to work in a team where there are girls :)
