Self-balancing robots ANYBOTS for peaceful purposes

I was pleased with the recent post by Mr. bsn about the miracle-robot BigDog, in connection with which I want to share information about a very interesting American development. I have been following the topic of self-balancing robots for a long time, and I especially like what one small (5 person) startup ANYBOTS.COM from San Francisco does . A startup in the full sense of the word, i.e. It is an independent, self-financing (independent of DARPA inflows) a leading development company for exclusively peaceful, or even domestic, purposes.

Anybots have two areas of research - i.e. two robots. The first is the balancing bi-ped (two-legged) Dexter, which they teach to walk and jump like a person. The second is the “householder” Monty, balancing on two wheels, with two mechanical arms, which should be taught to perform various household tasks. At the moment, Monty can collect dishes from the table and put it in the dishwasher, as well as brew and serve coffee. See for yourself:

Some more very interesting video clips are on the company's website ...

Perhaps the Dexter bi-ped is not as spectacular as BigDog, but I think that making balance a piece of iron on two “legs” is a lot more progress.

Yes, I almost forgot, Anybots was founded by Paul Graham's associate (Y-Combinator), with the money they received from the sale of their project - the online store Viaweb written in LISP :-).
