On August 1, 2012, Lenovo and EMC agreed on a strategic partnership, which should strengthen and expand the product portfolios of both vendors in dynamic markets. The main focus of this activity will be on the development of research and development work on the server solutions market.

The partnership is characterized by several strategic areas:
First, companies form OEM and reseller partnerships, in which Lenovo will provide leading network solutions from EMC to its customers, initially in China, and further in other international markets, simultaneously with the development of its own server business.

Secondly, EMC and Lenovo plan to transfer part of the assets of iOmega (EMC business) to a new joint venture that will provide small and medium business with network-attached storage (NAS), as well as corporate networks.
