Nokia MD-12: Bluetooth speaker that turns any surface into an audio system
Friday, Habr!
At the Nokia MORE event, held at the Microsoft BUILD 2014 conference earlier this month, we showed not only the new generation of Nokia Lumia smartphones and the Nokia Cyan update with Windows Phone 8.1, but also one interesting accessory - the Nokia Nokia MD-12 portable speaker.

This device is remarkable in that it became the first vibration-acoustic audio system in the Nokia accessories line.
For details, welcome under cat. Let's start with the key advantage of the novelty: with a weight of just 180 grams (which is slightly less than an apple), the Nokia MD-12 is distinguished by its high-quality and powerful sound, which runs counter to its compactness and appearance.
The secret of Nokia’s mobile audio system lies in the built-in vibration transducer located on the bottom of the device. For those who encounter such acoustics for the first time, we will explain: vibro-acoustics amplify low frequencies due to the impact on the surface (especially the hard one) on which it is installed. In the case of the Nokia MD-12, a surprisingly large, wide range of low frequencies is reproduced, not typical for such a compact speaker. The maximum speaker output power is 9589 dB.
The design of the Nokia MD-12 is designed in the spirit of the portable speaker JBL PlayUp, one of the company's best-selling portable accessories. Nokia MD-12 boasts a bright washer-shaped body made of two-layer plastic orange, green, yellow or white. The speaker, as well as in the prototype models, is directed upwards, providing sound propagation in all directions. The dimensions of the column are 38x84 mm (height x diameter).

The built-in 1020 mAh Li-Ion battery provides up to 15 hours of battery life, which is quite a good indicator for portable acoustics. The device is charged via a standard micro-USB connector. You can be sure that the charge is enough, for example, in order to have a small party in the open air. The speaker MD-12 can also perform the functions of a speakerphone.
You can connect Nokia Lumia or any other smartphone with NFC to Nokia MD-12 simply by touching the speaker with the back of the case. However, NFC is only for "parring" devices, and the sound will be transmitted via Bluetooth 3.0 + HS. The range of the column is 10 meters. Also, the device can be connected in the traditional way via Bluetooth authentication, and if the phone does not support wireless technologies, then it remains possible to use the audio jack and the 3.5 mm wire that comes in the kit.
In contrast to the older models, the entire MD-12 control was reduced to a single button located on the end of the device, as well as to a special Nokia Device Hub application, thanks to which the user can not only control not only this speaker, but also other connected accessories.
The application is divided into recommendations for use. The application may make recommendations on the use of a Nokia accessory with additional Nokia devices and may even suggest where they were used the last time, if suddenly the user cannot find any of the accessories.
The declared cost of the device in Europe is 39 euros. Information about the announcement and the cost of Nokia MD-12 in the Russian market will appear in the near future.
