Skype 2.0 for Linux

The developers of Skype , a popular VoIP telephony tool, introduced version 2.0 of their product for the Linux family of operating systems.

The main difference between Skype 2.0 and previous versions is that it supports video calling (in versions for the Windows operating system, this function was implemented quite a long time ago). In addition, this version has eliminated a number of bugs, as well as improved sound quality.

The hardware requirements for the new version differ significantly from the requirements for the previous one: a processor with a clock frequency of 1 GHz, at least 256 MB of RAM, and 20 MB of disk space is now required. For voice, you also need a microphone and headphones, and for video, a webcam, respectively.

The Linux version of Skype 2.0.0.63 is currently available for the following operating systems: Ubuntu 7.04, Debian Etch, Xandros, Fedora 7, Fedora Core 6, Mandriva, Centos, as well as OpenSUSE 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3.
