By the end of 2006, the number of commercial WiFi hotspots worldwide will increase by 47% compared with the previous year and will be about 143.7 thousand.

According to the company, almost two thirds of the access points are concentrated in North America and Europe, while the Asia-Pacific region, although lagging behind its neighbors, is increasing the number of hot spots fairly confidently. The market leader is still Europe - with over 57 million WiFi points on its account. An important role in the development of a network of hot spots is played by companies selling goods and services. For example, this year McDonalds has provided access points to about 17% of its restaurants located in 24 states of America.
