This afternoon, Canonical unexpectedly
announced that it was no longer supporting its Ubuntu One cloud storage. The reasons for this unexpected step: the company's desire to concentrate on tablets, mobile phones, desktops, and tools for developers for these systems, as well as the fact that the company is trivially unable to compete with other similar services like Dropbox and Google Drive. Also, the cross is put on the service Ubuntu One Music.
The Ubuntu One client will be excluded from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, the service itself will continue to work until
June 1, 2014 , and the files will be
permanently deleted after July 31 .
