Comstar will provide WiMax to Ukraine
Technological Systems (TS), a subsidiary of Comstar-UTS, received licenses worth $ 0.8 million to provide WiMax services in Ukraine in the frequency range 5.4-5.7 GHz. According to Prime-TASS , the vehicle’s licenses are valid in Kiev, Odessa, Lvov and the regions adjacent to these cities.
“The licenses obtained enable the TS to deploy wireless access networks in the largest business centers of the country, including those cities where fiber optic cables are not allowed due to historical, architectural and geographical features,” Comstar-UTS notes. “The development of the WiMax network will allow us to circumvent these limitations.”
According to Kommersant , while WiMax services in Ukraine are offered by only one company, Ukrainian Advanced Technologies (TM Alternet). Experts predict that in the near future Golden Telecom and Intellectual Communications will come to this market.

Last year, according to IKS-Consulting, the volume of Ukraine’s broadband access market was about $ 114 million (2.5 times less than Moscow), with an Internet penetration rate of 1.6% of the total number of households in the country with an annual increase of 20-30% .
