Toshiba lost a billion dollars on HD DVD

The losses of Toshiba, a Japanese corporation, from operations related to HD DVD players will reach 100 billion Japanese yen (986 million US dollars), according to the information analysis agency Nikkei Business Daily. According to the company's latest annual operating profit forecast (from March 2007 to March 2008) it will be 250 billion Japanese yen (2.47 billion US dollars). According to the data available to the publication, in its annual report, Toshiba will show a figure of revenues of about 2.3 billion dollars, which is noticeably lower than the predicted value.
Since Toshiba has stopped supporting HD DVD format, a number of leading consumer electronics retailers, such as Japanese Edion Corp, have announced programs to replace Blu-ray counterparts with HD DVD players purchased from them, subject to a price equal to the difference in cost between the players.
