How long will it take the designer to draw the prototype interface?
We have accumulated some statistics for model projects - mainly in the field of e-commerce. And we want to share it.
Below is a table with a list of required (or very common) pages of the e-commerce site. For each page, we estimated the time to design it.
It’s better to use our data with some limitations.
- You can estimate the total time to develop medium-sized projects (from 15 to 50 pages). Some items will require more work, some less, but the amount will be quite accurate.
- You should not use this statistics on small (up to 15 pages) projects. Deviations in both directions do not compensate each other, and the total error will be too great.
- If for the first time the designer takes on some page (that is, he has no ready-made developments so far), multiply the estimate by 2.5.
- If you hire a freelancer, rather than perplex the staff member, multiply by 5.
- Deeply creative tasks are not included in the list of standard pages.
In other words, statistics is useful for estimating the timing of the design with the help of a staff specialist who has done similar work several times. And on the project "without creativity", which requires only good-quality implementation of clear and adequate introductory.

A question from the audience: so if my designer already did something similar, let him evaluate it himself? Why do I need your statistics?
You ask - you answer: experts are not inclined to evaluate their work in small pieces and prefer to say something like "A week, no less." The meaning of their assessment is not in labor costs, but rather in the date of issue of the result, taking into account parallel tasks. To believe or not to believe such an assessment of terms is a purely intimate matter. We do not believe - and we split the task.
A side benefit that we haven't been interested in for a long time (but which, as it turned out, is needed by customers): the tablet helps to figure out which pages are included in the typical solution of the electronic sales site.
The list has a different effect on large and small customers.
- Bolshoi: “Oh, that is, in two weeks you won’t be able to build a site like Yulmart ’s? And in two months, too, nothing? "
- Small: "Yeah, that is, CMS must be chosen, looking here at these and these pages, of course."
How do we use these statistics ourselves? It's simple.
- The manager makes a list of pages that need to be developed, and more or less automatically receives the table “Page - time for design”.
- The designer makes edits to the manager's assessment. The action, as it turned out, is rather a ritual and mutually soothing: the total estimate of the terms of the manager and the designer differs by ridiculous 2-3 hours.
- The manager, happy and satisfied, informs the customer of the exact intermediate and final approval dates. And at the same time the cost of work.
The whole chain takes a completely unimportant time. And the torments “How much of what designer should I draw?” Are forgotten.
And now - the actual table.

We will issue in Excel format - pull in a personal.
Well, a few examples of what we call page prototypes. Because the degree of acceptable detailing is still holivarchik.
