Google has signed a deal that can help Glass glasses become more attractive to a wide audience,
writes The Verge. The company announced a partnership with Luxottica, a manufacturer of glasses under such well-known brands like Ray-Ban, Oakley, as well as Chanel and Prada. Google and Luxottica will develop and produce an exclusive collection of frames for Google Glass.
For starters, the deal will be limited to the US market and will focus on the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands. According to a press release from Luxottica, the first collection will "combine advanced technology with avant-garde design and offer the best in style, quality and performance."
According to Google, Luxottica and Google will work together on the design, while Luxottica will be engaged in the production and sales itself. When the new version of Google Glass may appear on the market is still unknown. This may not happen in the near future: “You will not see Glass in your favorite Oakley or Ray-Ban tomorrow, but today marks the beginning of a new chapter in the design of Glass,” the Glass team

In January, Google released the first rims for Google Glass, in which you can put lenses with diopters. While it was rumored long ago that the company was working on the design of frames with a startup Warby Parker, it turned out that Google had created four frames on its own. Now it seems that Google has managed to sign a deal that could raise the popularity of its points to a new level.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Luxottica is not only the largest manufacturer of glasses with 12.4% of the market, the company also controls LensCrafters and Sunglass Hut, which will allow it to sell Google Glass in more than five thousand retail stores. Moreover, cooperation with Luxottica may also be beneficial for Google's deal with the VSP insurance company, which will reimburse part of the price depending on the prescription for glasses.
