Attention all keyboard players. :)

This post from the [GUITART] blog will introduce you to the novelties of keyboards donated to us by Roland.

Having appeared this year at the music exhibition “Music Moscow”, I could not pass by the stand of Roland. I do not regret the time spent! And I can not share pleasant discoveries:

Elastic Audio Based Synthesizer V-Synth GT
')
Fantom line of synthesizers

To tell in detail about these instruments in the framework of one article, in my opinion, is impossible, therefore I will limit myself to my impressions and opinions of famous keyboard players.

V-Synth GT or keyboard cook

The V-Synth GT workstation is somewhat reminiscent of a spacecraft control panel: buttons, toggle switches, sensors, a screen ... At first, it's hard to understand what it is responsible for! The first thing that comes to mind is flexibility! Flexibility in the sense that the instrument allows you to mix all sorts of sounds in various proportions, so that you feel not as a musician, but rather as a cook. True, in my opinion, the tool is good only for creating the so-called “electronism”, since simply “playing” on it will not work. But for real sound fans (if there is such a word!) V-Synth GT is a true find.

Fantom's

The second discovery for me at the 2007 exhibition was a new line of Roland synthesizers - Fantom X. Without going into details of the improved interface and other pleasant things, I would say that the instruments captivated me with their sound. Telling is meaningless - just try it once. It is impossible to remain indifferent! True, they are significantly more expensive than the EXR line, which was described in the first post about keyboards. Price of tools: from 80000r.

Here you can see how these handsome ones are used and sounded.

What do professionals say?

My impressions are rather those of an amateur who is not too tempted to play various instruments. Let's listen to what the keyboards say about the new Roland synthesizer lineup. Better than them, hardly anyone will be able to impartially highlight all the advantages and disadvantages.

Jordan Rudess: “On the Roland's new Fantom, the means of expression are far superior to all existing synthesizers I've ever seen. When I play the synthesizer, I need to quickly switch from one performance with overlays and divisions to another. Previously, it was not possible to switch without breaking the sound. And here is the new Live Mode from Roland - you hold your hand on the keyboard and the old sound sounds, and the new notes are already playing with a new sound. ”

Paul Mirkovich: “The visual interface shows everything that happens - right in front of your eyes, and it makes work a lot easier. I see which controllers control which sliders, see which sounds are selected, and what are the current levels of different layers. Special thanks need to be said for the new Live Mode. Each patch in this mode has its own COSM effect, and therefore the used patches sound exactly the same as in the Single mode (single patch mode). Now you don’t have to sacrifice effects when combining several different patches in Live Mode! And it all sounds great! ”

“Shiny Toy Guns” keyboard player: “A computer and a recording station are built into one synthesizer, and the smaller the individual boxes, the less confusion. Everything has become easier. ”

Sound modules

It is worth noting that Roland is now releasing removable sound modules. Sound modules (3M) using MIDI technology are usually used either as independent sound sources or to enhance the capabilities of MIDI keyboards. Perhaps the most famous are the Virus sound modules from Access. Korg also produces sound modules. And now there are new ZM from Roland.

I think that soon a separate article will be devoted to sound modules. In the meantime, admire the appearance of the Fantom XR Rackage sound module:
