What do children think about games?

The theme of "children's" and "non-children's" games is one of the most acute and interesting recently. We are also studying it from different angles: for example, recently we began to indicate age limits for our games. And more recently, we decided to hold our games (of course, for those for which there is no age limit) a tough test - we invited several of our employees to our usability laboratory. They gave the kids a tablet, gave them time to play with him, and then asked simple questions. We were interested in how children perceive modern technologies and gadgets, what they feel, what they think. After all, most of our reactions and deep installations are laid in childhood. And today's children are completely different from us, 20-40-year-olds, when we were as much as they. And that's what they said ...

Without exaggeration, the generation of 3-6 years can be called the "electronic" generation, they play very little in the "analog", "physical" games. Tablets, smartphones, laptops, consoles, desktops - this is the "yard and sandbox" of modern children.

What do they think about games? What do they think of those who create games? We asked simple questions about the games, some of the children of our employees. It was not a deep detailed study - rather, we wanted to get a general idea of how today's children perceive computer games in general.

Look at the faces of these children when they play on the tablets. What immersion, detachment from the outside world, what interest in the eyes! This is not a concentration, as in adults, it is some other, freer, or something, state.

In general, children almost do not associate computer games with people. For them, it is a kind of abstraction that exists in this world by itself. Of course, in this respect, there is nothing special, children almost everything is perceived in this way. Another funny thing: the children we surveyed believe that adults, in general, do not know how to play. But the current generation of 20-30-year-olds, perhaps the most spoiled by all sorts of electronic entertainment and gadgets. But maybe this difference in the perception of adults by children is the most correct? It would probably be wrong if the children thought that adults play no less than them.
