The German company is developing self-learning manipulators a la "Doc Ock"
Marvell’s comics often show a hero named Doc Ock. This friend has robotic manipulators that increase the “functionality” of a person several times. Developers from Germany decided to create something similar (although they are comparing their project with an elephant's trunk), and the manipulators created can be self-taught, thanks to the corresponding software.
The robot remembers the necessary movements, as well as the desired degree of pressure on a particular type of object, and the next time they use exactly this model of behavior. Experts even compared this method of teaching with the teaching of young children who get experience through trial and error. ')
Manipulators began to develop in 2010, but then they were not able to respond appropriately to objects of a certain type without a rigidly defined framework of "behavior" in software. Now the developers have allowed their project to self-learn. The project team claims that the robot can already work with the most fragile objects - from light bulbs to hazelnuts.
