Google refuses underlined links

Since March 13, Google has refused to use underscores in links (in search results). It is worth recalling that since the 1990s, the "clickable" elements have been underlined.

In addition to rejecting underlined links, Google also removed the pink background from paid ads, making them very similar to regular search results.

Jon Wiley, Google’s lead designer, writes on his Google+:
You may have noticed that Google Search in the desktop version today began to look a little different.

By the end of last year, we launched some pretty big search improvements for mobile and tablet devices (for mobile first). Today we have added some of these changes to the desktop version.

We increased the size of the names of the search results, removed the underscore and aligned the height of the lines. It improves readability and creates an overall clean look. Combining the multi-platform experience, a new type of ad name has also been added, taken from the mobile version.

Improving consistency in the design of different platforms facilitates the use of Google Search for various devices, and this greatly simplifies the development tasks for us - to create improvements in all directions.
