Shouldn't you open Opera code?

On OSNews, there was a small discussion on the topic: why few people use Opera? Naturally, this question is mainly answered by regular visitors of OSNews, but at the same time it should be noted that some of the reproaches clearly have something in common with the arguments presented in other forums. In particular, such moments as the inconvenience of the interface, the demands on the RAM, the incorrect display of some pages, and finally, the proprietary license were voiced. In general, these controversial, often, the claims were discussed many times, but during the discussion, one of the users gave a brief translation of some of the statements of Hakon Lee on the issue of Opera under a free license and the opening source. According to him, the current situation on the market is pushing Opera Software into the Free Software camp with all its might, and this opportunity has been repeatedly discussed by the management of the company. Hakon even spoke in the sense that they would even be pleased to show their code to other programmers, since there is something to brag about, but the Norwegians still haven’t found a suitable business model into which the development of the browser could be translated.

By the way, maybe someone has a couple of ideas, what should the Opera Software business model look like based on free licenses?

For starters, I can remember the words of one of the IE developers after another leak of Windows code into the network: it expressed itself in the sense that for a good programmer any code is open. In other words, no one has yet canceled disassembly and, if desired, almost all binaries can be broken down into pieces. Hence the reasonable question - and will the Norwegians know how to suffer if the code is open? After all, in fact, with Opera open source, it will be much easier to see which creators of similar programs slightly borrowed ideas. In general, who has the desire - let's argue. If something interesting is born, I promise to bring this to the attention of Jon and other Opera developers.
