In 2013, the company 'SplashData' announced its annual list of the 25 most common passwords found on the Internet, from a variety of leaks. It is also worth noting that Adobe’s leaked base has made its adjustments. This year, the “password” lost its position, having slipped to second place, and the first place, for the second time, is “123456”.
As I already mentioned, the list was greatly influenced by the leaked Adobe user base. We can observe passwords such as 'adobe123' and 'photoshop', which again says that you should not base your password on the name of the site or application you are accessing.
The list of frequently used passwords shows that many people still put themselves at risk using weak, easily guessed passwords. Some of the other top-10 passwords are: 'qwerty', 'abc123', '111111', and 'iloveyou'.
')
Another interesting aspect of this year’s list is that short numeric passwords appear, although sites are beginning to universally introduce and apply strict password policies [at least a minimum character check]. Newbies on this year’s list are simple and easily guessed passwords, like '1234' - # 16, '12345' - No. 20, and '000000' - # 25.
TOP-25 was composed of files containing millions of stolen passwords and posted on the Internet during 2013. This annual list is intended to facilitate the use of more complex passwords. In the hope that high publicity will show how dangerous it is to use weak passwords, more and more people will begin to take simple steps to protect themselves with strong passwords and using different passwords for different sites.
