Crowdsourcing to search for a missing plane

As many, probably, already know, not so long ago, the Malaysian Boeing 777-200ER plane following the Kuala Lumpur-Beijing flight (MH370) disappeared over the South China Sea from radar . The incident caused a wide public resonance, since, firstly, this type of aircraft is deservedly considered one of the safest - in all previous incidents with this type of aircraft only 3 people died; secondly, in the overwhelming majority of cases, a catastrophic situation does not develop instantaneously, and the pilots have time to give a distress call (which the instructions instruct to do immediately).

Search for the missing aircraft has been going on for several days, but so far to no avail. The problem is that the disappearance of the aircraft from the radar, strictly speaking, does not necessarily mean that the aircraft fell exactly in the place where the connection was lost with it. This may indicate a transponder failure or an intentional shutdown. According to some reports , after the radar disappeared from the radar screens, the aircraft continued its flight, turning to the west and leaving the airspace of Malaysia.

Desperate to search for a plane, the company DigitalGlobe offered to search for anyone. Satellite images cover the area where the Boeing’s crew last contacted; it is also expected that images of the Strait of Malacca will also be available in the foreseeable future. So, if you are full of enthusiasm and determination, welcome !
