LEGO Keyboard

It has always amazed me that only people do not build from the LEGO designer: from huge figures of robots and spaceships to 3D printers and full-scale working karts. LEGO has stood the test of time. Even 65 years after his invention, LEGO designs still fascinate us. Today I present to you another work of art - a keyboard from LEGO.

This fully functioning keyboard is the brainchild of a LEGO enthusiast, Jason Allemann. Jason's first prototype was based on the Microsoft Natural 2005 keyboard, but was never implemented for reasons of form complexity. The latest version of the LEGO keyboard was created from an old regular rectangular keyboard that Jason found on the street.

All keys are held by axes from the LEGO Technic series. The entire QWERTY layout is located on top of the push button and PCB sensors. As you can see in the video below, some of the keys are quite unusual. For example, the roof-shaped button is for the home button, a tile for the control button, and a baseball cap on top of the Caps Lock. The most important thing about this keyboard is that all keys can be quickly replaced without much effort.

In spite of my doubts about the usability of such a keyboard, Jason states: “practically the same as any other keyboard, only a little hinders the deflection at the edge of the frame”.

It remains to make a LEGO mouse for the full set.
