IBM is expanding the Master the Mainframe Contest competition program and opening the first IBM World Master Championships World Championship.

The initiative is part of IBM's global strategy to develop mainframe skills and form a new generation of technical experts. The championship will demonstrate the key capabilities of the zEnterprise servers designed to meet the challenges of big data processing, information security, and cloud and mobile computing.
The championship will be attended by the best university students from around the world, who have demonstrated high technical skills following regional IBM Master the Mainframe competitions. Of the 20,000 students who entered the number of participants in regional competitions over the past three years, the best 44 students will represent 22 countries of the world as part of the IBM Master the Mainframe World Championship. During March, a selected group of students will become acquainted with the concept of Systems of Engagement. Championship participants will need to create business applications for mainframes using the Java, COBOL programming languages and DB2 for z / OS interfaces, as well as demonstrate how the concept of interoperability systems helps to take full advantage of the platform. According to the results of the work, an expert jury will review the projects and determine the world champion Master the Mainframe on April 7, 2014 in New York.

“The Master the Mainframe competition is a great way to familiarize the younger generation with the perspectives of corporate computing,” said Martin Kennedy, managing director of global computing systems at Citi. - I followed the course of the competition for several years, and as a result I hired a considerable number of talented young professionals who participated in both the Master the Mainframe Contest and the IBM System z academic initiative. In my opinion, the world championship will be the starting point for teachers to rethink the importance of mainframes in the context of the development of corporate computing. "
Since its founding in 2005, more than 68,000 students have participated in the Master the Mainframe competition, who demonstrated their skills on a world-class corporate platform and, ultimately, presented their achievements to an expert jury, as well as gained the necessary experience in corporate computing. High-performance zEnterprise servers that are used in many sectors of the economy, including banking, transportation, healthcare, and the public sector, provide organizations with a highly secure load management platform, helping to reduce time to market, reduce costs, and accelerate business growth.
