After a long break associated with the release of books, we resume the release of digests with experiences. And today we offer to watch not only those videos that we shot ourselves, but also those that we did together with someone ("Science 2.0", "Karamba TV").

The filming of this video and the whole production was done on the “Science 2.0” channel, all we had to do was what we usually do - experiments.

In the process of filming about 30 takes were made at the request of the operators. And in the most recent video, when the alcohol gradually evaporated, the bill stopped burning in principle. I had to add alcohol, which led to such consequences :)







But Sberbank accepted such a bill, since all the numbers remained on it.



Electrochromic film







The electrochromic film consists of two layers of a film with an internal conductive layer and a liquid crystal base. In the off state, the crystals are arranged chaotically, forming an opaque white and matte surface, scattering the transmitted light. When voltage is applied, the crystals instantly stabilize, the film becomes transparent and transmits light.



Technical characteristics of the film: power supply 90-110V, current 0.1A / m2, power - 7 W / m2, switching speed - less than 1 sec., Transparency - 7-75%, switching resource more than 100 thousand times, operating temperature range from -40C to + 75C



Potato gun (workers shooting evolution of the gun)



Whoever has already done the gun, shooting potatoes. Even in recent news reports such a construction appeared on the Maidan. But we did not set out to make the gun itself for the sake of experience, we made it to order for the plot of the Karamba TV channel. Or rather, we were offered to participate in a pilot issue on “karamba” and, if something happens from this idea, then continue.



And on the video, I gathered together samples and errors obtained during the construction of this device. I especially want to boast that we used a stun gun in the ignition system. This undoubtedly improved the characteristics of the gun and nullified the misfires that occur when using the lighter piezo.







Red Chemistry







And this is the experience from the second book "Simple Science". Its essence is as follows:



The juice of red cabbage contains a special pigment that is sensitive to the acidity of the solution - it changes color from red in acid solution (vinegar) to blue in an alkaline medium (soda). In addition to cabbage, many dark blue berries and vegetables have a similar property: beets, blackberries, black currants, blueberries, blueberries, cherries, and dark grapes. A solution of juice in water has a purple color. When mixing solutions of vinegar and soda, the reaction occurs with the release of bubbles of carbon dioxide, and the acidity becomes closer to neutral - the color of the solution becomes closer to purple.
