Liteco collects to help Vietnamese orphanage

Update: fundraising completed and the article is printed !

While some central banks believe that cryptocurrencies are needed to finance terrorism and create financial pyramids, an enthusiast from Vietnam saigoned is holding a campaign to collect lightcoins in support of the Gò Vấp orphanage , where there are many sick children, including those suffering from the effects of Agent Orange .

Initially, saigoned contacted Thanh Niên, a large Vietnamese newspaper, and invited them to write an article about lightcoins. The idea was to collect $ 1,000 worth of litecoins for charity purposes, thus demonstrating the possibilities of cryptocurrency, and describe it in the article. After consultations, a shelter was chosen, which is in dire need of funds, and on February 3, saigoned created a theme in the LitecoinTalk community with the initial goal of collecting 50LTC during the month (then the lightcoins were trading at more than $ 20). And although since then the price for LTC has dropped significantly, it was possible to achieve the goal in less than a month. In fact, the fundraising began on February 13, and at the time of this writing, 136LTC or about $ 1,800 was collected. The collected amount can be tracked in Block-explorer in real time.

The peculiarity of the promotion is that funds are accepted exclusively in lightcoins. To increase the credibility of the action, the forum moderator ThomasFX took the responsibility to be an intermediary in fundraising. Being a lightcoin enthusiast, saigoned does not plan to sell them immediately after collecting them, but will simply give the orphanage out of their own money the equivalent of the amount collected in dollars (at the BTC-E rate at the end of the promotion) or Vietnamese dongs. In support of the fundraising, a banner was made, a photo session was held and a small video was made (the videographer was paid in LTC!)
