Google Modular smartphone “Project Ara” will go on sale in 2015

Google Inc. announced that Project Ara , its modular smartphone, which had not been developed a long time ago, will become a very real device, not just a concept, and will be available in early 2015. The working sample of the smartphone is planned to be made next month of this year.

True, the general public will be able to get acquainted with the device only in mid-April, when a conference for developers will be held, in the California Computer History Museum. The date of this conference is April 14-15.

One moment: participation in the conference will be paid. An admission ticket for a student will cost $ 25, and at $ 100 tickets will be sold to anyone.

According to representatives of the Project Ara project, the aluminum platform will be the basis of the smartphone, on which it will be possible to string all the other modules. It is worth noting that by default only the Wi-Fi wireless module and the battery will be installed (this basis will cost $ 50). And everything else, including the telephone module, camera, etc., will need to buy more. The thickness of the modules will be standard, 4 mm, the thickness of the device will be 9.7 mm.

And yes, it will be possible to purchase three different types of enclosures: small, medium, large. Of course, the larger the chassis, the more modules you can plug in and get more features. The platform will be released by Google itself, and the modules will be third-party companies.

An interesting point is that the modules can be replaced in the "hot" mode, that is, without rebooting or turning on / off the device.
