Open source Wiren Board

Today we decided to take an important step in the development of the Wiren Board platform: open the source files of the Wiren Board 2.8 board.

Open Hardware is a relatively new trend in the hardware world. But it is he who allows starting dozens of new projects and novice developers.
The Wiren Board platform itself was created using the open hardware processor module - Olinuxino Micro . This significantly reduced for us the “threshold of entry”: we used a ready-made module from a third-party manufacturer, and at the same time we could not be afraid of the cessation of its production, price policy, etc. And at the same time we could modify it to fit our needs.

Why we did it

Wiren Board was created as a platform for the development of any useful automation: access control, meter readings, etc. We sometimes receive suggestions from customers to refine the board for their needs. But last week we successfully opened the pre-order for the controller for the home automation of Wiren Board Smart Home , so in the next couple of months we will focus only on this area. There is still a lot of work ahead - you need to write documentation, do work examples, test new peripherals. And so that the Wiren Board does not disappear as a platform, while we are busy with the “smart home”, we decided to put the source files (schema and trace) in open access. The board is double-layered, the minimum size of the components is 0805, so all this is easy for repetition and manual soldering. True, the two chips are still in QFN, but it did not work out differently.

As an example of the art of circuitry, you should not take it :-), but the board is fully working, tested many times, including dozens of customers - you can safely use it in your projects.
