Introducing the Nokia X family with support for Android apps.

Hi, Habr!
Perhaps you have already heard about this, but now we are officially confirming: today, at Mobile World Congress, we have introduced a new line of Nokia X smartphones with support for Android applications, Microsoft integrated services and Nokia branded services. Interesting details about the included smartphones and developer tools are waiting for you under the cut.

So, the presented lineup consists of the base model Nokia X and the model Nokia XL with a large screen 5 '. The models are focused on “fast-growing” markets and act in the price segment below the Lumia line, but above Asha.

The first model of the Nokia X line is equipped with a capacitive IPS display with a diagonal of 4 inches and a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Among the features of the model: 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, support for 2 sim cards (3G), 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory, support for memory cards up to 32 GB, a 3 megapixel camera without flash and a 1500 mAh battery. The model will be presented in Russia in the following colors: bright green, bright red, yellow and black.

The Nokia XL smartphone has a large display with a diagonal of 5 inches (IPS, 800 x 480 pixels), a 2 megapixel front camera ideal for Skype video calls, and a 5 megapixel rear camera with autofocus and flash. The model is also based on a Qualcomm dual-core processor with a frequency of 1 GHz. The model has 4 GB of internal memory with support for microSD and 768 MB of RAM. Nokia XL will be presented in the following range: bright green, orange, yellow, blue and black.

Smartphones work on the Nokia X Software Platform (hereinafter referred to as NXSP), which is a combination of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), Nokia’s proprietary shell, and integrated services from Nokia and Microsoft.

It is noteworthy that the interface itself is a successful symbiosis of solutions from Windows Phone 8 and the platform Asha. From the first, the NXSP took over the lock screen, the Nokia Glance screen and the main (vertically scrollable) screen with square icons that can be resized. Platform Asha "shared", in turn, the screen Fastlane. This screen displays information about messages, calls, reminders and recently launched applications in the form of a list sorted by time. To open the Fastlane screen, simply “swipe” the home screen to the left or right side.

As for services and applications, Nokia X smartphones also took an example from other lines of the company's mobile devices. For example, cloud synchronization of photos and other content can be done through OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive), and Skype is used as the standard messenger. At the disposal of users will also be such proprietary services from Nokia, such as free HERE maps with support for high-quality work in offline mode and step-by-step navigation, and Nokia MixRadio for free streaming listening to music and downloading playlists. In addition, a variety of third-party applications and games are preinstalled on all devices in the Nokia X line.

One important point is worth mentioning here: the Nokia Store will be used as an app store for the X line. However, if the user suddenly cannot find the necessary application, he will be offered to search for it in one of the available customers of third-party open application stores (Yandex Store, SlideMe and others).

Another pleasant surprise for future users of Nokia X smartphones will be 1 month of free calls all over the world via Skype: to landlines in 60 countries and to mobile phones in 8 countries.
