Even a couple of years ago, the term "smartphone" caused many associations with the high price of this kind of gadget. Since then, the prices of mobile phones and smartphones (meaning low-end devices) have gradually decreased. And now Mozilla announced its intention to release 25-dollar smartphones, of course, based on Firefox OS.
It should be noted that now budget smartphones with Firefox OS are already sold in 15 countries, and 12 more markets are planned to be “opened” for sales of such devices. This is Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Germany, Nicaragua, Panama, Guatemala.

Many mobile device manufacturers and telecom carriers are working with Mozilla, including Deutsche Telecom, Telekomsel and Indosat.
Recently, Mozilla announced a partnership with a company that manufactures chipsets for low-cost mobile devices, this is about Spreadtrum. The new partner will produce a single-core chipset SC8621 for those same 25-dollar smartphones.
The device itself is unlikely to "pull" productive applications / games, but it will perform the basic functions quite well. Moreover, the characteristics of the device are quite decent: single-core processor with a frequency of 1 GHz, 2 GB of internal memory, 1 GB of RAM. In addition, there is a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 480 * 320, 2 MP camera.
Such smartphones will work with the ecosystem of Web / HTML5 applications. The basic functions of the device should satisfy the user's average hand: calls / sms, music playback, video playback, Internet browser, e-mail.
Qwerty-smartphones with a similar configuration are also planned (only the display will not be 3.5-inch, but 2.5-inch, because the keyboard takes up space).
