Simultaneously with the search for effective character recognition algorithms, spammers began to use crowdsourcing to solve CAPTCHA tests, which are the main protection of numerous forums and sites from the huge flow of automatic spam.
To solve the tests, they hire “crowds of lemmings,” as crowdsourcing calls numerous groups of low-skilled users who are ready to do any kind of work for a penny for days. For example, one of the Belarusian lemmings recently said in his LiveJournal that he had already received the first payment as a result of three days of work.
