Published financial report Tesla Motors for 2013 . The company sold 22,477 cars worth more than two billion dollars. In 2014, this figure is expected to grow by 55%, since it is planned to complete the creation of a network of high-speed electric refueling stations in the USA as a whole, which should boost sales. For the same year, it is planned to start implementing the most ambitious plans of the company - to build its own plant for the production of Li-ion batteries, comparable in power to all the other factories of the world combined, and to begin the active development of a third-generation electric car that will cost 30-40 thousand dollars comparable to the Model S characteristics and will allow Tesla Motors to conquer a truly mass market.

So far, the main product of the company is the Model S sedan. This year, the delivery of the Model X crossover, which will be built on the same platform as the Model S, is expected (60% of the parts will be identical). Only after this Tesla Motors will focus on a qualitatively new model of the third generation.

The plans of Ilona Mask to build their own battery plant have been known for quite some time. According to Trip Chowdhry, director of Global Equities Research research firm, the plant can be built in partnership with Panasonic and Sanyo in the southern United States, in the state of New Mexico. Tesla has not yet officially commented on this information. The company's annual report says that it will be a vertically integrated production - from the processing of raw materials to the manufacture of finished batteries. Earlier, Musk promised that the plant would meet the most stringent environmental standards, in particular, it will provide energy to the solar power plant. The plant will produce about 500,000 cars a year in three years.

In addition, it seems, Mask seriously set his sights on another promising market - stationary batteries for solar power plants. The fact is that the battery becomes unsuitable for use in a car after its capacity drops to 70% - 80% of the original, as this significantly reduces the mileage from a single charge. Whereas for stationary batteries, the capacity-to-mass ratio is a secondary characteristic, and a battery from a used car can serve for many more years at a power plant until the resource is fully developed. A few years after the start of mass production, Musk will become the owner of a huge stock of batteries removed from cars, but still quite suitable.
