Employees will be transported on a catamaran, which seats 30 people and which will have Wi-Fi, coffee and snacks. Facebook plans to test this mode of transportation for 90 days, after which the company will evaluate its effectiveness.
Google, which launched its ferry in early January, completed a 30-day trial program last week and now assesses how a water taxi suits it. The company used a more spacious catamaran - for 150 people, including deck spaces. On the ferry, Google also had Wi-Fi.

Launching their own ferries is an attempt by technology companies from the San Francisco Bay to find alternative ways to transport employees to and from the office. Many companies, including Google, Facebook, Apple and Cisco, use their buses to transport San Francisco residents to the company's offices in the valley.
However, these buses have become a cause of contention in recent months: local residents are protesting against them, considering them to be a symbol of growing economic inequality in San Francisco. The San Francisco Municipal Transport Agency even decided at the end of January that the city should levy taxes on companies that use public bus stops to pick up employees.
