The founders of The Pirate Bay negotiated with North Korea regarding the placement of torrent tracker servers

That is the embassy of North Korea in Sweden

Last year, many resources published news that the server of the most famous torrent tracker The Pirate Bay can be transferred (or already transferred) to North Korea. Of course, as some readers of such news assumed, all this turned out to be nothing more than a joke.

Nevertheless, the negotiations of The Pirate Bay team with the representatives of North Korea were indeed conducted, although not last year, but much earlier, in 2004-2005. This was announced by Tobias Andersson in an interview last week.

At the time, according to Andersson, the torrent tracker team began negotiations with the North Korean embassy in Sweden about the possibility of moving their servers to the embassy building. At that time, The Pirate Bay didn’t have as many users as it does now, which is why extra wide channels were not needed. And the basic work of the servers could well be maintained with the communication channels that the embassy staff could provide.

The way that was used to communicate with the employees of the North Korean embassy is also interesting: the Buch team found nothing better than to try to contact the embassy via email. There was little hope of a response, but soon the torrent tracker team received a response, and quite a positive one. Negotiations began, but, unfortunately, when the discussion entered the business phase, all e-mails began to “fight off”.

Later it turned out that the embassy worker, with whom The Pirate Bay representatives had contacted, was recalled to his home country, to North Korea. It is unclear what happened - whether it was a full-time replacement of workers, or in North Korea, they learned about the connection of their worker with representatives of the “decaying West”, and decided to withdraw this person.

Anyway, the Pirate Bay had a chance to stay in North Korea (any embassy is considered to be the territory of the state that this embassy represents), and not bad. Where the tracker servers are located now - very few people know.
