Bionic hand prosthesis returns touch

The improvement of technology and the simultaneous development of medicine in our time make possible the emergence of things that previously seemed pure fiction. For example, now some companies create bionic prostheses, which return the owners the opportunity to touch the objects to which they touch. Recently, a team of Czech scientists reported on their success in this area, who, among other things, posted a video test of the prosthesis.

Dennis Aabo Sørensen volunteered to be the test volunteer, who lost his arm in an accident (negligence with pyrotechnic "toys"). So, working with a new prosthesis, he not only feels something, as in some other cases . No, the prosthesis allows it to sense the size, shape, and even the texture of the object to which it touches.

This achievement was made possible by connecting the electrodes of the prosthesis to the human nervous system. The strength of the signal supplied to the nerve is calculated by the computer with the appropriate software. The volunteer himself rated the new prosthesis and the possibilities offered by this invention as “incredible”.

Of course, the tests were carried out over the entire form - the volunteer closed their eyes, even used earplugs, checking how effective the new type of prosthesis was.

Separately, it should be emphasized that this man lost his hand nine years ago, and now he has again had the opportunity not only to take and move objects, but also to feel.
