Opening of the Olympiad: stress test of the 4G network from MegaFon

Moreover, it was these customers that generated half of all Internet traffic at the Fisht stadium that evening - just during the opening ceremony, MegaFon customers sent and downloaded over 400 GB in 2G / 3G / 4G networks.

During the dynamic show on the MegaFon network, hundreds of thousands of photos and video particles of audience impressions were transmitted every second. On average, each client of the network used up to 15 MB of Internet traffic - this is about 150 photos for social networks. Most of the time, viewers of the ceremony posted photos of the brightest moments on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.







In total, the guests made more than 130,000 calls and sent about 50,000 SMS-messages in MegaFon networks - both our subscribers and clients of other major telecom operators of the world on the inter-roaming service.

Most often the guests of the Olympiad called to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar, and foreign spectators - to Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany, Great Britain and Turkey. MegaFon managed to ensure 99% of successful connections, which is higher than the norm set by the Olympic Committee. About 20% of calls were made by subscribers of other Russian operators, using the service of inter-network roaming.
