it is strange that the news is still not on the habr

On Monday, MDIF announced the creation of a new global Internet access network. The project was named “Outernet” and involves placing miniature CubeSats satellites in near-earth orbit, covering all continents with a Wi-Fi network.

Founded by MDIF Innovation Director Syed Karim, Outernet will use a network of small satellites to transfer Internet data — audio, video, text, and applications — to any Wi-Fi compatible device, including mobile phones, anywhere in the world and completely free.

We are starting a truly revolutionary project - says MDIF CEO Harlan Mandel, - Outernet will bypass censorship, ensure confidentiality and global access to information for everyone, including those who are currently beyond the geographical reach of the Internet or simply cannot afford it.

The essence of the project is to locate hundreds of cheap, miniature satellites in low-Earth orbit, each of which will receive data from ground stations and continuously transmit it to customers. For these purposes, UDP will be used over Wi-Fi. However, it is still not clear how this bundle is justified, especially if we are talking about one recipient.

Build a network threatened by June 2015. By the way, donations are already accepted.
