Monitoring of Runet technologies for 2013

The department of information and analytical research RU-CENTER Group published an annual report with the results of monitoring the use of CMS and various technological solutions in Runet in 2013. Each month, the robot http://monoid.nic.ru/ polled the hosts on the list (popular car parks are excluded from it). In total, more than 1 million domains in the .RU zone were surveyed. Read more about the methodology here .

Some of the results are quite interesting. Since the surveys were conducted monthly, it is possible to see not only the final result, but also to evaluate the process over time. In other words, you can track the migration of sites between different CMS.

The robot distinguishes seven leading CMS by the number of sites: Drupal, WordPress, Joomla !, MODx, 1C-Bitrix, NetCat, UMI.CMS. In this case, there are two undisputed leaders - Joomla! and wordpress. These CMSs account for 70% of the websites running one of the detected content management systems.

The June-July anomaly is most likely due to technical problems on communication channels with one or several hosting providers, according to RU-CENTER Group experts
')
During 2013 between Joomla! and WordPress was a match. At the beginning of the year, Joomla! Was in the lead, but in June WordPress caught up with its rival, and by the end of the year it came out on top.

Among the remaining CMS, the authors of the study draw attention to the success of the commercial product “1C-Bitrix”, which is even ahead of Drupal, although the latter is offered with a free license.

The popularity of boxed CMS is a purely Russian phenomenon, there is no such thing abroad. And in RuNet 13% of sites already work for them.

Statistics on hosters shows that the most popular sites for Russian sites are Leaseweb (Holland, Germany, USA) and Hetzner (Germany). However, in general, Russian hosters control about 70% of the market.

The following table shows the cumulative annual migration volumes between CMS.

... on Drupal... on WordPress... on Joomla!... on MODx... on 1C-Bitrix... on the UMI. CMS... on NetCat
... with Drupal ...-4914119120824eight
... with WordPress ...313-13751983907932
... with Joomla! ...7653563-731141624283
... with MODx ...76289275-168thirtyeight
... with "1C-Bitrix" ...10632134585-4113
... with UMI. CMS ...28971012177-eight
... with NetCat ...nineteen5440951eleven-

During the year, many sites switched from Joomla! to other CMS. “1C-Bitrix” (+ 5% of installations only at the expense of Joomla!) Received the greatest benefit from this.

RU-CENTER also measured the average loading time of web pages on one of its channels. It turned out that during the year the speeds increased by almost one and a half times - and this despite the fact that the average size of the index page of the site increased from 26 to 29 KB over the year.

The authors of the nginx web server will be pleased that over the past year about 250 thousand more sites of the Runet have switched to it.

A curious part of the RU-CENTER study is monitoring the use of modern web technologies. “An important and well-marked trend is the growing interest of web developers to HTML5 and related promising technology specifications. Their penetration into website building is proceeding at a speed substantially exceeding the rate at which new websites are launched, ”the report says.

“Most modern sites are developed immediately for one or another content management system. The market presents not only common solutions included in the study, but also a wide variety of proprietary CMS, created by various developers, dominated by web studios. The shares of each of these CMS are small, although in general they occupy a sizeable part of the market, estimated at 10-15% of websites, ”the authors of the study write.
