Today, the world saw beta Opera 20 for Android. The main novelty of this release, perhaps, is support for WebRTC, where RTC means “Real-Time Communications”, or “Real-Time Communication”. This is a set of APIs that allow browsers to connect to each other and transmit data over P2P with encryption.
The WebRTC initiative is a project supported by the largest browser makers Google, Mozilla and Opera. With this release, Opera for Android (as well as for computers) joins Google Chrome and Firefox Mobile in supporting WebRTC and now these three browsers can communicate with each other without any plug-ins, using only open and compatible web technologies.
But you are right: instead of a thousand words - a demo. Therefore, we specifically asked Chris Heilman
@ codepo8 from Mozilla on Firefox Mobile, Jake Archibald
@jaffathecake from Google on Chrome for Android and our Bruce Lawson
@brucel from Opera for Android to get together in a simple
web service
view.in on WebRTC and take a selfie.
