Proving again all the improbability of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the NBC TV channel
showed that the data of all the arriving participants will be hacked as soon as they get to Sochi.
“The State Department warned travelers not to hope for the safety of their personal lives even in their hotel rooms,” said Richard Engel from NBC at the Brian Williams show. "We found out that you are particularly susceptible to hacker attacks if you are trying to communicate through any device."
According to Engel, hackers are just waiting to get into your devices as soon as you go online (and what else to do after the 75-hour flight to Russia?).
')
To substantiate his point of view, Engel brought two new laptops with him to Sochi. With the help of a US security expert, he created fake accounts and a fake list of contacts on computers - both were hacked during the day. “Only a minute passed after which the hackers began hacking attempts.”
Engel also conducted an experiment in which he took a new smartphone to a restaurant, and began searching the Internet for news about the Olympiad. “Malicious software got into our phone even before we finished drinking coffee, hijacked our data and made it possible for hackers to make and record calls.”
A company called Kaspersky Lab, which should deal with computer security issues at the Olympiad, said that its visitors bring with themselves too many different devices, and that hackers, in any case, have a lot to learn. It sounds like it's part of a plan.
Engel describes the situation with the security of personal data as being in a minefield. And he suggests that the best way to protect your gadgets is to leave them at home.
But how then will we see selfies of very nice (thanks for the corrections) participants in the US men's curling team?
Translator's Notes:There are few opinions in the comments about the essence of such statements by NBC. All the same, can guests threaten the disclosure of personal data on such a scale? I think this is all part of the propaganda against the Olympics in Sochi.
Comments from Kaspersky Lab:The text incorrectly specifies the role of Kaspersky Lab in the organization of the Olympics. The computer security of the Games themselves and its infrastructure is not the responsibility of our company. As a supplier of the XXII Olympic Winter Games, we provided our security solutions only for the infrastructure of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee. You can read more in the
corresponding press release .

That NBC story 100% fraudulent.
