Yahoo plans to embed chat into the new Yahoo Mail interface

News from the Web 2.0 Conference continues. Yahoo has announced a chat for users of the new Yahoo Mail beta interface.

Chat will be built directly into the mail using AJAX technology. Apparently, it will be integrated with Yahoo Instant Messenger: mail users will be able to communicate with each other, as well as with Yahoo IM and Live (MSN) Messenger users (recall that since the summer of 2006, as a result of the cooperation of Yahoo and Microsoft, these instant messengers companies can communicate with each other).

The difference from Google Chat in GMail , integrated with GTalk , will be in the interface: Yahoo Mail users will be offered a large chat window with the ability to insert emoticons, adjust color and font style, etc. The status of users will be displayed in the sidebar of the mail (“Online”, “Out”, etc.). Chat history will be saved in the same way as emails.

With the help of a new chat, Yahoo is trying to attract those who do not use them to the use of instant messengers. According to comScore , there are 487 million email users in the world and only 80 million use internet pagers. Yahoo Mail is the most popular email service: its audience is 250 million users (for comparison, MSN Hotmail is 228 million, GMail is 51 million).
