Comparative test of 5V chargers and microUSB cables

The speed of the phone battery from the charger depends on the cable used, and may vary tenfold!

Looking through several chargers (chargers) for a phone in a car showed that inexpensive noname chargers, no matter what the manufacturer claims, the phone is not charged. The problem is solved by the acquisition of automotive memory Nokia DC-17 (declared up to 1000 mA). However, then HTC Wildfire S with a 1300 mAh battery for a charge of which was enough for 0.5A, was replaced with a Lenovo P780 with a 4000 mAh battery, which already requires 2A.

')
And this led to a new problem - the Nokia DC-17, which quietly and quickly charged the old phone, squeaked loudly when charging a new one. What caused concern for the memory and for the phone. The selection of the memory in the car took some time and led to an unexpected conclusion.

Nokia DC-17 is donated, purchased a charger for Samsung ECA-P10CBE tablets (2000 mA). And since the cable included had an original connector for Samsung tablets, I had to use the charger with the first microUSB cable. The phone was charged with 0.11A current, which is not enough - in the navigator mode, the phone was slowly but discharged. But it was enough to replace the cord with the original one, and the charge current increased to 1.41A. The current does not depend on whether the memory is in the cigarette lighter or connected via a tee.

This unexpected result served as a basis for checking all the chargers and cables on hand using a USB Charger Doctor device. Not entered in the Russian register of measuring instruments and the unverified, but as it is. Before each measurement, the phone was charging about 1 min. The battery of the phone before the series of tests is charged at 8%, in the process it was charged up to 15%.

The first stage tested the memory with the original cable from Lenovo P780:
1) Original Lenovo (declared up to 2A) - 1.85A
2) Samsung (declared up to 2A) - 1.85A
3) HTC (announced up to 1A) - 1.24A
4) Sony Ericsson (announced up to 0.85A) - 0.90A
5) Sony (declared up to 0.5A) - 0.81A
6) Samsung (declared up to 1A) - 0.68A

Noname memory is not investigated due to the fact that empirically determined long ago as invalid and discarded. The possibilities of branded chargers, as follows from the test, approximately correspond to those stated.

The second stage compared microUSB cables with a native cable from Lenovo (in the photos above), which allowed charging the same phone from the same charger to a current of 1.85A:
1) Sony Ericsson - 1.86A
2) Nokia short cable - 1.87A
3) Nokia long cable - 1.30A
4) Good to touch long and thin noname cable No. 1 (upd: from Kindle) - 0.90A
5) Noname cable №2 - 0.61A
6) Samsung thin cable - 0,42A
7) Nomame cable No. 3 - 0.15A
8) Noname cable No. 4 - 0.10A

Only two cables made it possible to also quickly charge the phone from the native storage device, as well as the native one from the kit. One or two more are suitable with reservations, the rest are unsuitable for charging.

Conclusion: In the characteristics of the memory of decent manufacturers relatively truthfully indicate the current limit, and these data can be guided. But with an increase in charge currents, the charge rate determines to a greater degree not the charger, but the microUSB cable. And a good short thick cable from the kit to the phone or tablet with a powerful battery is more valuable than a good charger.
